I have largely moved on from Github, and encourage you to do the same.
Microsoft is charging full speed ahead toward total enshittification, and GitHub is along for the ride. The developer experience has been so bad lately that I saw no better option than leaving the platform.

My public repositories are now located at:
- git.hickersberger.org
- Codeberg: codeberg.org/renehsz
- Sourcehut: git.sr.ht/~renehsz
I would like to encourage you to host your own Git forge as well! It is not that difficult!
For many use cases, a simple git init --bare might be all you need. Clone the repo via SSH and you're all set.
If you want to go one step further, tools like stagit or cgit can host a simple web interface.
In case you need a more advanced web UI, consider setting up Forgejo or Gitea.
Also consider deploying a web application firewall like Anubis to protect your server against spammy AI crawlers causing unnecessary load.
"But... I don't want to self-host!!!11!!"
Sure, you might want to consider Codeberg or perhaps Sourcehut. Look around, there are plenty of options!
