A second-person action RPG.
You play one character among companions who are peers. You can address them, persuade them, equip them, and help them. You negotiate standing behavior rather than command a party, though you may tag into another character's perspective. They outlive you, and when you die one of them becomes the character you play.
Because you control one character, the rest of the roster simulating is what makes the settlement alive. The social layer never has to make anyone competent in a fight; it has to make the place worth coming home to and decide who is standing beside you when you go.
The base is assembled and inhabited: camp becomes settlement and perhaps city as buildings change what its people can do. Their biographies, homes, agreements, and accumulated deeds become the lineage and culture of the place.
A paredros is the one who sits beside you: in the Greek Magical Papyri an acquired companion, and in classical civic use an assessor seated beside a magistrate. A colleague, not a servant. Colleagues also succeed to office.
