Looking for some NES nostalgia? With a Civ V twist? You’ve come to the right place.
Z2 hasn't been in development in a while. It's really 2 mods atm, due to experimentation. The non-Z2 portion is a rebuild of G&K that could/should be peeled off into its own mod. This side of Z2 is actually really cool, Unciv combat taken to the next level.
The stopping point here was an issue with the AI that confounded AI settlers, to where gameplay vs AI was too distraught. This was an important lesson in Unciv modding - conversion mods (or total conversion TC mods) can quickly become burdened by AI glitches due to unintended original gameplay. This lesson has been a serious consideration in advancing my Ultima V mod from a themed graphics mod to a TC mod.
Resuming work on this mod is a matter of when. =)
I’m a huge fan of the original Zelda 2, up to and including no-lives-lost vanila game completion. I also have a less than 7 minute completion speedrun time which you may find entertaining. ;)
- For the first time in Unciv history, bridge tiles can be placed. This is accomplished with Hybrid Tile Tech, invented here, and now mentioned in Unciv's code.
- Thanks to hybrid tiles, three specific Zelda 2 gameplay elements have been preserved: raft crossing, boot water walking, and the bridge to Maze Island.
- Unciv modder/mappers are going to have a field day tearing apart Z2! Have at it! Share what you learned, this is a huge opportunity!
Feedback: Issues (dev-related) and Discussions (game-related) at the top of the page.
Take a closer look at the above and you'll see the hidden water paths using Force (a TerrainFeature) via customized ocean Hybrid tiles that makes the special features of the Hyrule overworld map possible!
Z2 is essentially in beta. While in active development, expect anything could change!
Feel free to review/reuse the json’s. There's tons of commentary, especially towards learning what Unciv can/can't do.
