A gym environment for ALOHA
Note: this readme is under construction.
This fork adds:
Trossen AI Stationary robot simulation:
TrossenAIStationaryTransferCube-v0
TrossenAIStationaryTransferCubeEE-v0 (EE=end effector)
(TrossenAI task classes and mujoco files were adapted from https://github.com/TrossenRobotics/trossen_arm_mujoco)
Additional env arguments for the TrossenAIStationary Transfer Cube.
Updated example.py with added image display, and new example_viewer.py.
Create a virtual environment with Python 3.10 and activate it, e.g. with miniconda:

Two tasks are available:
- TransferCubeTask: The right arm needs to first pick up the red cube lying on the table, then place it inside the gripper of the other arm.
- InsertionTask: The left and right arms need to pick up the socket and peg respectively, and then insert in mid-air so the peg touches the “pins” inside the socket. (original Aloha only for now)
The action space consists of continuous values for each arm and gripper, resulting in a 14-dimensional vector:
- Six values for each arm's joint positions (absolute values).
- One value for each gripper's position, normalized between 0 (closed) and 1 (open), for original Aloha, and between 0 and 0.044 meters for Trossen AI Stationary.
Observations are provided as a dictionary with the following keys:
qposandqvel: Position and velocity data for the arms and grippers.images: Camera feeds from different angles.env_state: Additional environment state information, such as positions of the peg and sockets.
- TransferCubeTask:
- 1 point for holding the box with the right gripper.
- 2 points if the box is lifted with the right gripper.
- 3 points for transferring the box to the left gripper.
- 4 points for a successful transfer without touching the table.
- InsertionTask (original Aloha only for now):
- 1 point for touching both the peg and a socket with the grippers.
- 2 points for grasping both without dropping them.
- 3 points if the peg is aligned with and touching the socket.
- 4 points for successful insertion of the peg into the socket.
Achieving the maximum reward of 4 points.
The arms and the items (block, peg, socket) start at a random position and angle.

box_size: (list[float]) Half size of box in meters. Default is[0.0125,0.0125,0.0125].box_pos: (list[float]) Box position [x.y.z] in meters. Careful: will override random x,y,z from reset(). If z<0 will use -z and will not override x,y from reset(). Default is[0.0,0.0,0.0125].box_color: (list[float]) Box color. Default is red:[1,0,0,1].tabletop: (str) Choose tabletop texture. Current options are 'wood' and 'my_desktop'. To use your own, replace the .png file in <texture name="my_desktop_texture" ... in assets/trossen_ai_scene_joint.xml. Default is'none'which is a black tabletop.backdrop: (str) Textured robot surround walls. To use your own, replace .png for back_wall_texture, left_wall_texture, and right_wall_texture in assets/trossen_ai_scene_joint.xml. Default is'none'.lighting: (list) len=6 The first 3 terms set the level of both the top_light_1 and top_light_2 diffuse levels in assets/trossen_ai_scene_joint. Second 3 terms set the both the headlight diffuse and ambient setting. If the 4th term is negative the headlight remains default. See assets/trossen_ai_scene_joint for defaults. This option needs refinement.arms_pos: (list[float]) len=6 Sets the position, in meters, of the [left,right] arm base positions: "left/root" and "right/root" pos in assets/trossen_ai_joint.xml. Used to match the simulated simulated and real robot arm positions. Default is[-0.4575,-0.019,0.02,0.4575,-0.019,0.02].arms_ref: (list[float]) len=12 Adds a qpos0 reference angle to each of the 6 left and 6 righ joints. This helps to match simulated and real robot joint positions which may differ because of gravity compensation and other factors. Default is[0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0].
Rendering on the GPU can be significantly faster than CPU. However, MuJoCo may silently fall back to CPU rendering if EGL is not properly configured. To force GPU rendering and avoid fallback issues, you can use the following snippet:
