A clean, native macOS utility for generating Xcode-compatible app icons in one click.
Simply drag and drop a 1024x1024 source image, choose your target platform (iOS, macOS, or both), and IconGen instantly creates a perfectly structured AppIcon.appiconset folder with all required sizes and a pre-filled Contents.json file.
To install the app using the pre-compiled .dmg release:
- Go to the Releases page and download the latest IconGen.dmg file.
- Once the download is complete, double-click the .dmg file to mount it.
- A new Finder window will appear showing the IconGen application.
- Drag and drop the IconGen app into the Applications folder shortcut.
- Eject the .dmg file (right-click the disk icon on your desktop and select "Eject").
- Launch IconGen from your Applications folder.
(Note: On the first launch, macOS may prompt you with a security warning because the app was downloaded from the internet. To bypass this, go to System Settings > Privacy & Security, scroll down, and click Open Anyway next to the IconGen message. Don't worry, the app's code is safe).
- Open the app.
- Drop a 1024x1024 PNG image into the drop zone (or click Select File).
- Choose the generation mode: iOS, macOS, or All.
- Click the Generate button.
- Select a destination folder. The app will create an AppIcon.appiconset folder there and automatically open it in Finder for you.
