Get up and running with OpenCitation in minutes.
You can use OpenCitation immediately without creating an account:
- Go to opencitation.vercel.app
- Paste a URL, DOI, or ISBN into the input field
- Click Generate
- Select your citation style (APA, MLA, Chicago, or Harvard)
- Copy your formatted citation!
Examples:

- Click Cite in the navigation
- Select the Manual tab
- Choose your source type (Book, Journal, Website, etc.)
- Fill in the required fields
- Generate and copy your citation
Create a free account to save and organize your citations:
- Click Create Account in the header
- Sign up with email or Google/GitHub
- You're ready to start saving!
Lists are like playlists for your citations:
- Generate a citation
- Click Add to List
- Create a new list or add to an existing one
- Access your lists from the Lists page
Projects help organize multiple lists (e.g., by semester):
- Go to Projects
- Click New Project
- Name your project
- Add lists to your project
- Open a List or Project
- Click Share
- Copy the public link
- Anyone with the link can view (but not edit)
