Same situation, I was trying to erase a disk with Disk Utility, but the other disk was erased... and all my data gone(about 300GB). The worst thing is there aren't any backup for this disk...😭Backup is important!!! |

I was trying to remove macOS Sloppen Gate from my MacBook.
Disk Utility showed that it's at disk3, I run command in terminal to delete the container at disk3, and lo and behold: "Deleting APFS volume Macintosh HD Tahoe", which was supposedly at the container disk4 instead. The volumes were gone in an instant, due to FileVault and the command actually fully nuking the APFS superblock.
Everything that was not in iCloud, uploaded to Git, or Telegram, was lost, including some prototypes like Fine, research experimentations, etc. is gone: a total of ~200GB.
80GB of that, which was downloaded files, was backed up in my USB. I also found some older copies of code and reverse engineering databases scattered throughout Telegram DMs.
However, it is a bit of a setback, and the whole event was a bit heartbreaking for me, primarily because I'll have to reinstall and reconfigure all my tooling, and repeat a bunch of reverse engineering.
A lesson for me to take backups of everything, and frequently, I guess.
I'll probably need a few weeks to catch back to before the incident, sorry about that.
