I've installed version 1.9.0-alpha1 on my RG DS with Rocknix 20260701
I get these errors :

I checked in .config/raofflineproxy/menu-sdl.log and I have this

After that, I tested with v1.8.0-alpha1 and the same thing appears.

In Rocknix, in Information > Video Driver menu, I have :

• Graphics API : OpenGL ES 2.0
• Vendor : ARM
• Renderer Mali-G52

Hi, thanks for the detailed report. This matches a segfault I'd previously tracked down on RK3326/libmali devices (yours is a Mali-G52, same GPU family). The crash happens inside SDL's native wayland/EGL init, before any Python-level fallback can catch it, and it turned out to be the specific pygame build I was bundling, not driver selection: someone else on that device class had already ruled out wayland, kmsdrm, and x11 all crashing identically.

I've swapped the vendored pygame for pygame-ce (Community Edition), which is what device-class ports on PortMaster use successfully. Could you try this test build?

Thanks for the update, I tested this morning, after upgrading Rocknix to 20260801.
It starts but still not usable. The screen is all black with a quarter white (see screenshot). I also see the following message at start (really quick, I had to record a video and check frame by frame) :

Steps performed :

• Removed .config/modules/RAOfflineProxy.sh and .config/raofflineproxy folder to start fresh
• Copied RAOfflineProxy-Rocknix-v1.9.0-alpha2-Install.sh to .config/modules
• Launched it
• Launched RAOfflineProxy.sh

Files in .config/raofflineproxy :

• menu-sdl.log

Thanks for the image+log, that's helpful, the segfault is gone. this is a separate display issue, likely related to the RG DS having two screens, which nothing here currently accounts for.

Before guessing at a fix, I'd like to see what SDL actually detects on this device. Here's a debug build that logs the display driver, number of displays, and detected sizes to menu-sdl.log before drawing anything:

Could you install it, launch the menu once (even though it'll look broken same as before), and paste the new lines from .config/raofflineproxy/menu-sdl.log?

This comment is mostly for documentation:
A second device hit what looks like the same pre-fix segfault: GKD Pixel 2 on a fresh install, current ROCKNIX. menu-sdl.log shows the wayland attempt starting then dying silently (native SIGSEGV, no Python-level error), followed by kmsdrm and x11 both cleanly failing as "not available". same signature as the original report here. Pointed them to the pygame-ce test build above to confirm.

Sorry for all the back and forth testing, it's hard to debug without having the device myself 😅

SDL is actually detecting both screens correctly (640x480 each). The issue looks more like a wayland compositor quirk than a sizing bug. No new build needed, could you force kmsdrm instead and try again?

Then launch the menu again and let me know if the screen looks any different (and if you can, another quick log-frame video or the menu-sdl.log lines again).

It displayed nothing, crashed, and made all the console super slow. The /usr/bin/sway process spiked to 99% CPU.

Just to check, I did this :

Sorry, that crash is on me: my debug logging had a bug that fired before the driver fallback could kick in. Also I should've checked, your very first report already showed kmsdrm/x11 as unavailable on this device, so forcing kmsdrm was the wrong ask, my bad.

One more thing that'd help a lot: while the menu is running (or right after), could you run this over SSH and paste the output?

swaymsg -t get_outputs

That'll tell me the scale/position/resolution sway thinks each screen has, which is my best guess for what's going wrong.

UPDATE:

I dug through PortMaster's source (which does work on ROCKNIX) to see how they handle this. Turns out every native ROCKNIX Python/SDL tool pairs pygame.FULLSCREEN with an explicit compositor call:

sway_fullscreen "python3" &

which just runs swaymsg '[app_id=python3] fullscreen enable' in the background, retrying until the window shows up. We were relying on SDL's own fullscreen flag alone, which apparently isn't enough for sway to actually give the window fullscreen treatment on every device. That fits your symptom well: a small floating window in the corner instead of a real fullscreen surface.

New build with that fix added, same as before:

Found a bug in the fullscreen call itself: it was matching by wayland app_id=python3, but your log showed that never actually matches on this device (No matching node), so it silently never ran. Switched to matching by process ID instead, so at least the call itself should work now.
