Warn about case-differences in file paths for file that exist, but with different case

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
The link-target existence check for files should (maybe optionally) warn about (lower/upper) case mismatches in the file path/name.
I work on Windows, but I need the result to also work on Linux, etc.

Uppercase lowercase do not resolve to same file it produced an error.
Maybe it works in browser navigating to pages but in the editor you will get a file not found error if it's not the same casing.

What you are proposing is downgrading it to a warning I get it maybe work for your website but typically this doesn't work.
So i'm not sure that is a direction I would like to follow. A file doesn't exist hence you get an error if another file exists with same name but different casing then that's another file.

I would instead add a flag like --detect-duplicates to path check and then show the possible file with the different casing in the error message while also adding another flag like --auto-fix-casing to path checking to fix the casing of files to the found file to match the casing of the found file.

what do you think about that?

Only if your file system is case-sensitive. On Windows ![](attachments/Alfred.jpg) als finds attachments/alfred.jpg.
But when I put this on GitHub or Linux, it becomes a "File not found".
I had similar issues in the Mad Pascal project and implement this:

Ok, so all Unix system are case sensitive while windows isn’t.
What do you think about the new flag suggestion?

Linux is flexible and there are also case-insenstive file systems on *nixes, like on macOS.
Having option to control behavior does make sense to be compatible.
But the name --detect-duplicates sound misleading to me.
I'd rather call it --detect-case-mismatch/--fix-case-mismatch.
And of course fixing an only be applies if there is exactly one matching file.
