Building greengrass fron scratch instead of using binary/jar blob

I think that in order to apply my own patches and also to add some contribution to the project it would be better to add the possibility to compile the jar on the yocto project own instead of downloading something from somewhere don't you think?

Top of mind - the tools probably not available in yocto to build it as meta-java is outdated.

100% untrue i have managed my own to do this compilation yesterday using corretto jdk from meta-aws but had to do some fixes and also using old maven recipe from meta-iot-cloud but it is working. I can create a pull request with my fixes if you want?

I will post it during the weekend and definitely will keep you updated regarding this, because as i said at the very beginning ppl would like to have the possibility to apply their own patches. Moreover binary blobs for such specific projects like yocto are not supposed to happen in addition to most recent CVE like the one with xz package and ssh backdoor.

100% agree on this - we tried to build JDK from scratch in the past and were not doing it as the tools necessary are not easy to build from source. So if you manage to get this done for Greengrass we should have it in the layer.
