ULX4M progress

Hello StereoNinja team!

I have really good progress with new CM4 compatible ULX4M board. I have managed to get both cameras working. Also Miguel (hdl4fpga) created fast DDR3 driver so now we know that 1GB of DDR3 can work on 400MHz.

Do you have some progress on ULX3S version?

At the end I ended up without even using LP signals (as it was hard to fit all those resistors and connect all pins). I have only left with one LP signal on one cam, but I am not using it.

I hope that soon I will also have SDRAM version so I could give you core a try if you have something usable?

Hi Goran! I've seen your update on the ULX4M-LD v002 board. This is fantastic!
Michael is currently working on getting the camera to work, but has not succeeded yet. He is writing a Bachelor thesis on the subject, so he hopes to get it running soon. Alex just designs a new adapter board to have both cameras connected with HS and LP.

The ULX4M-LD sounds very promising for our project. Is LD the DDR version of ULX4M? Do both variants have both cameras connected? We need fast memory for our applicatoin and as we use a CM4 IO board anyway for the Raspi based variant, it would fit perfectly. We just would need to swap out the CM4 for the ULX4M-LD :-)
So in case we could have a module we definitely would be interested!!

Hi Andreas, My working version for both cams is here, so maybe you can use some of it. It also has I2C implemented, it takes data from camera and saves data to internal FPGA frame buffer. That buffer is then showed on simple DVI(HDMI) out. But it is just single picture - still not stream of data... https://github.com/goran-mahovlic/mipi-csi-2 It will be best if you get gore running on ULX3S as there are a lot of boards out there. As for the ULX4M - I am working on getting few more boards out. It is a little bit complex as I need to assemble everything by hand and 0402 is tiny so ... And for your project maybe ULX4M-LS would be better fit then ULX4M-LD as LD will be quite expensive as it will have one more power supply, 1GB memory SUM part for SerDes that is now really high priced also currently there is no source of the Ethernet chip I want to use on that board. LD and LS both have two cameras and two HDMI outputs... I do not know how big FPGA would your project need? And how much memory would be minimum? Goran

We have I2C commuication working, but we'll have a look, thanks!
Concerning assembly: we maybe could do that ourselves, if that helps to get hands on a board :-) ethernet we do not need right now
Concerning FPGA size: not sure, I'll talk to Michael, but I think it is not the limiting factor. serdes support would be good
Memory: We would like to have 2 FullHD frame buffers in memory, so 1GB would be plenty.
Where I'm currently unsure: can we stream camera streams into ram and at the same time output HDMI in FullHD from the other frame buffer. Not sure how memory timings/interface are

Having said that: a ULX4M-LS board could be interesting as well, I'll talk with Michael about it

This is what I have with ULX4S https://youtu.be/Q3f7WWKSdC4 This is camera set to 640x480 Full HD input will be really hard to get on ECP5. Witb output we did get close 1920x1080x30 with fake diff pins so I think output could be done on ULX4M as it is now using true diff pins. DDR3 version will have 1GB memory and Serdes 85F chip and SDRAM version will be 64MB with 12F chip
