I noticed a small detail that was clearer before. If I want to add compound information I see a structure editor and the note Draw a structure, or paste / drop SMILES, MOL, SDF, or a CAS number (e.g. 58-08-2).
The question is: Where to drop a molfile and where to drop a SMILES?
Drag-and-dropping a molfile onto the structure editor works, and this is intuitive, as people are used to drag-and-drop files. However, it's not very intuitive to know where to put a SMILES. If I have a SMILES string on my clipboard and press CTRL+V nothing happens. I first need to click into the structure editor, which draws ethane since the "single bond" is selected default, and then press Ctrl+V. Some people might delete the ethane first as they are confused, which is not even required and the pasted SMILES will overwrite the ethane.
Describe the solution you'd like
I could suggest to have an separate field below the structure editor to paste the SMILES. Possibly this field could also be used to paste a molfile.
Describe alternatives you've considered
An alternative solution would be to have two field: one to paste SMILES and another one to past a molfile.
