My systsem, GstarCAD 2025, python 3.12.10 and VSCODE 1.107.0.
How to debug PyRx script? or, Have other youtube clip that teach this task?

Assuming you’re using VSCode for your editor. You first need to setup your VSCode configuration

There’s a copy of my settings here:

Next you will need to start the listener; there’s a sample here:
PySamples/testPyRxDebug.py

in this sample,

first pyload testPyRxDebug.py, then start the listener with the sample command pystartdebug
place a break point inside PyRxCmd_doit, near db = Db.curDb()
in VSCode, start debugging
back in AutoCAD run the command ‘doit’
And the break point should hit. Note, debugging is on for the session. As a side effect you can edit your code, use the pyreload command to reload your module, and continue debugging

in the next release, there will be a new command PYDEBUG that will replace the need to use pystartdebug

After load testPyRxDebug.py, no pystartdebug command in this script.

How to Remotely Debug PyRx Scripts Inside AutoCAD Using PyCharm

If you are transitioning from VS Code and want to debug your PyRx scripts running inside the AutoCAD process using PyCharm, you can use PyCharm's Python Debug Server workflow.

Instead of debugpy, PyCharm uses its own library called pydevd-pycharm to bridge the connection.

Step 1: Install the PyCharm Debugger Package

You must install JetBrains' debugger component into the Python environment that AutoCAD/PyRx uses. Run the following command in your AutoCAD-associated Python terminal:

pip install pydevd-pycharm

Step 2: Update Your Listener Script

Replace your old debugpy logic with pydevd_pycharm.settrace().

Unlike VS Code (where the script listens for the IDE), PyCharm acts as the server listening for the connection. The script inside AutoCAD will actively connect out to PyCharm.

Step 3: Create the Debug Server Configuration in PyCharm

Instead of using a launch.json file, configure the debug server through PyCharm's user interface:

1. Open your project in PyCharm.
2. In the top-right corner toolbar, click the Current Configuration dropdown and select Edit Configurations...
3. Click the + (Add New Configuration) icon in the top-left corner of the window.
4. Scroll or search and select Python Debug Server.
5. Configure the following parameters:
   • Name: AutoCAD Remote Attach (or any preferred name)
   • IDE host name: 127.0.0.1
   • Port: 5678
6. Click Apply and then OK.

Step 4: Start the Debugging Session

To avoid connection timeout errors, always execute the steps in this specific order:

1. In PyCharm: Select your new AutoCAD Remote Attach configuration and click the green Debug (bug) icon. PyCharm's console will display: Waiting for process connection....
2. In AutoCAD: Execute your PyRx script that triggers the startListener() function.
3. In the Pop-up Dialog: Click Yes.
4. Done: The script execution will pass through the settrace bridge. You can now set visual breakpoints directly inside PyCharm to inspect variables, step through code lines, and evaluate expressions dynamically inside AutoCAD.
