cached_network_image_ce does not support jxl at the moment. I thought I could just use koni_jxl to decode bytes from cache in unsupportedImageBuilder but CachedNetworkImage skips it and jumps straight to errorBuilder where I can't access bytes

I think it's a bug on cached_network_image_ce side. I will report an issue. If the fix or jxl support comes up, I'll implement this feature. Otherwise, I'll have to use some workaround: try to get image from cache manually or skip the cache altogether

They got this fixed and I tried the lib, but it works really slow, like 9 seconds to decode a 2MB file.

I used a different approach. Hydrus has this /get_files/render request, so now it just swaps the file URL with a render request for a jxl file, then it loads as the PNG and shows correctly. If you download the file, it would be a jxl file. The only downside is that the render request doesn't support animated jxl files.

This change is presented in 1.2.0 release

ig you can use rendering for static jxls and fall back to native decoding for animated jxls and errors
