Clicking workspace numbers does nothing on Hyprland 0.55+

The new Hyprland version 0.55 is here, with lots of breaking changes as per usual!

Waybar mostly works fine, but mouse clicking on the workspace numbers doesn't change the active workspace anymore.

I am having the same issue, plus scrolling also not working. My guess is that with #5013 this issue should already be fixed for the next release.

For the meantime, I found no way to fix the clicking in the workspace issue, but you can manually fix the scrolling issue by adding a custom command for scrolling in your "hyprland/workspaces" configuration:

"on-scroll-up": "hyprctl dispatch 'hl.dsp.focus({ workspace = \"e-1\" })'" ,
"on-scroll-down": "hyprctl dispatch 'hl.dsp.focus({ workspace = \"e+1\" })'" ,

Once the changes are live, you should be able to remove these two lines and return to the default configuration.

After testing to compile myself, it is indeed fixed on master.

It's pretty easy, follow the instructions in the README:

git clone https://github.com/Alexays/Waybar
cd Waybar
meson setup build
ninja -C build

and add this to your hyprland.lua:

hl.on("hyprland.start", function()
  hl.exec_cmd("/PATH/TO/Waybar/build/waybar")
  ...
end)

and change it back once it's updated
